The Stoves project works to co-design low-smoke cookstoves to alleviate the discomfort and adverse health effects of cooking with smoke produced by traditional stoves. The Stoves team has created two design iterations, which focus on reducing the smoke and improving overall efficiency, while changing the user experience as little as possible. We developed a training program with our partners at the Setco Foundation to teach local women to build our stove design for themselves and their communities as a micro-business opportunity. Setco Foundation has been instrumental in coordinating the logistics of this program, and in facilitating educational outreach workshops on the health hazards of indoor air pollution. Presently, we have concluded validation testing and have reached our goal of building 1030 stoves throughout the Panchmahal District in Gujarat. We are no longer involved in the expansion of the project, but will support further growth led by community members.
